Anti-virus measures

All mail coming in at the mailservers is automatically scanned for the presence of viruses. In this way, your new mail - in your regular POP3 client as well as in webmail - is nearly full-time sacred from viruses.

Our measures

  • Infected messages are deleted
As soon as a virus is identified by Clam AntiVirus, the virus scanner at our mailservers, the message carrying the virus is deleted.

  • Nó notification to the sender
Because of the character of many viruses, it is not possible to ascertain whether the infected message indeed originates from the indicated sender. On the contrary, most infected messages do nót! That's why no notification of a possible infection is sent to the sender.

  • Nó notification to the addressee
For the same reason, and as well because of the ability of many viruses to pick mail addresses from address books, no notification is sent to the addressee.

Measures to be taken by you

  • Install anti-virus software in all your computers
If you are using webmail programmes from others or file-sharing programmes, there still is an enormous chance that your computer will be infected by a virus. Even by simply surfing on the web it can be infected.
Our anti-virus measures only apply to mail coming in at your regular mail adddresses, and do not safeguard you in the situations described above.

  • Never open suspicious messages/attachments
We cannot guarantee that your new mail is 100% cleaned for viruses.
In case of wide and dangerous virus outbreaks, most large anti-virus companies are able to produce updates of their software within 4-6 hours. Our mailservers in turn are checking every hour whether such updates are available.
All mail coming in at our servers in the meantime is not protected for the new virus.

  • Subscribe to a virus-alert newsletter
Various free newsletters are available to inform you by e-mail as soon as a dangerous virus outbreak is identified, such as Avert Virus News and VirusList.com Virus Alerts & Virus News.
